A Memorable Memorial Day

Sweetsir students singing patriotic songs.
The cafeteria was overflowing with families at our Memorial Day Ceremony on May 24th.  Ms. Ramsey, our music teacher, managed to get all k-2 students on stage waving flags as they sang moving patriotic songs. Several second graders also shared special poems they wrote to thank military men and women for their service.

We are grateful to the veterans and the active military men and women who were able to join us.  Their presence was a highlight for students who have spent the past few weeks learning about the significance of Memorial Day.  A special thank you to American Legion Commander Roger Clark, a U.S. Marine who served in Vietnam, for helping to host the ceremony.

Special guests:  Stephen True, Dean Lischke, Roger Clark,
Paul Robbins, James Quinn, and Dudley Farquhar.

Guidance Resources

The Dr. Frederick N. Sweetsir and Helen R. Donaghue Schools are fortunate to share a wonderful Guidance Team.  Miss Sarah Angell, Mrs. Amy Brennan and Mrs. Kathie Sullivan are highly dedicated professionals who care deeply about children.  Services they provide include: class guidance lessons, social skill groups, and consultations.  They are also available to support parents in helping children through all types of life experiences.   If you ever need information, support, or help connecting with area resources, please know that they welcome your phone call.

A letter is going home in students' backpacks today with tips and resources for coping with loss. Links to the on-line resources are posted below.  We plan to purchase multiple copies of the recommended books to have available for parents to borrow in the near future.  Our hope is to create a lending library for parents with books on a variety of health/guidance/parenting topics.  Once the lending library is set up, we will share the available titles with you.

Global Learning

Preparations are underway for the Second Grade International Fair!

Second graders have been busy researching countries and learning dance routines from around the world.  Their families are invited to see them perform this Thursday, April 12th, at 1:15pm in the Sweetsir Cafeteria. After the show, families can visit classrooms to see students' projects featuring one of the ancestor's countries.

Fall Fun

Mrs. Vienneau, our kitchen manager, decorated these cute pumpkins.  Children get a kick out of seeing Ernie & Bert in the school lunch line!

These two moms brewed up some fun!

THANK YOU PTO!

The October 21st Harvest Festival was a wonderful family event!

Children had a blast jumping in the bouncy house, decorating cupcakes, eating cotton candy, playing lots of games and, if they were brave enough, walking through the Teacher's Haunted House.
